Fujitsu: Fast 2.5-inch SAS hard drives for servers
November 20th, 2008Fujitsu has new server hard drives in 2.5-inch form factor for the SAS interface presented. The boards of MBD2-RC Series rotate with 10,025 trips to the MBE2-RC-series with 15,000 trips.
The RC is MBD2 with up to 300 GByte storage capacity than ever and the first quarter of 2009 appear. The RC MBE2 follows in the second quarter of 2009 with a maximum of 147 Gbyte, even here with the help of Perpendicular Magnetic Recording. In comparison with its predecessors promise both new series of up to 60 percent higher internal transfer rates, faster transmission through external SAS-2 (maximum of 600 MByte / s) and the renunciation of toxic halogens in the production. When power is 3.4 watt of inaction (MBD2 RC) or 4.1 watts (MBE2 RC), which according to manufacturer a reduction of around 28 percent over comparable current 2.5-inch hard drives represent.
Fujitsu hopes of MBD2-RC-series in the financial year 2009 approximately 5 million units to sell when MBE2-RC-Series is the producer of 1.5 million pieces, respectively.
